3 Types of Portrait Shots.

I enjoy taking portraits! Traditional portraits are extremely fun because you have the opportunity to learn more about your subject at some point during the shoot. I kept the basic elements of portrait pictures in mind while experimenting with background elements to give it an NY feel. A few homies and I stepped out and this is what happened. Hit the head, then watch the body drop.

Headshot

-head, and usually the shoulders in the frame.

Partial Body Shot

- crop at a fleshy part of the body, and not at a joint, like the elbow or the knees.

- if there is a hand in the frame, include the whole hand. Don’t chop the phalanges b.

Full Body Shot

- get all the appendages in… feet not clipped off at the toes, elbows in shot, all the etceteras.

- the subject doesn’t need to be standing… hence the signage in the background.
