Art Lesson Ideas

Goal: To create new instruments with unique sounds.

Objectives: Students will create their own instruments using items found at home or in the class.

Description: Students bring in items from home and explore ways to create music with them.

Materials: ANYTHING

Reflection:

Collaborating on this musical composition was more difficult than the puppet show. Everyone had at least one instrument and in some cases, two or three that we had to decide from. Deb and I abandoned our harmonicas as we thought of a theme, song name, and band name. We very quickly settled on the band name, Seen Better Days, which was appropriate for our collective mood. The theme came about as we used the fight in my drawing and the coming of age tale of Deb. Everyone’s role felt like it fell into place and we discussed very little specifics in regards to the song. The only thing that we needed to discuss was when to stop playing our respective instruments. After that was finialized, the title, From Sunrise to Sunset accurately reflected the beginning of the song and the story as it progressed to the end. Also, there was a cat.
